On July 4th, we rode from Fullerton to Solana Beach, California. I ‘armed’ myself with a bottle of e-Fuel, a second e-Fuel packet, two Clif Bars, and two e-Gels. I started drinking the e-Fuel early on, ate an energy bar starting at about 1.5 hours, had an e-Gel about an hour later, and made my second bottle of e-Fuel at around four hours. Admittedly it was a cool, sometimes even foggy day, but I felt good all the way, and arrived at the Amtrak station with some energy still in my 64 year old body, having covered 92 miles. I bought a sandwich to eat on the train, and still felt fine riding the 4 miles home from the train station. I even had an energy bar and an e-Gel left over!

I was at the Giro d’Italia earlier this year, and had the opportunity to try the energy gels and drinks used by the Pro Tour’s top ranked team. I much prefer the taste and texture of e-Gel and e-Fuel. Tropical Blast always tastes good; I like Mountain Rush, too.
